Meet the Teacher

Hello, and welcome to our class webpage! My name is Kristyn Shevchenko and I'll be your child's teacher this year. I'm a new teacher at HWDSB, but I've been teaching for the last 15 years both in the Peel region and in Manitoba where I started my career.  I'm very excited to be your teacher this school year. I've spent most of my career teaching grades 5 and 6, but I have experience from grades 4 through 8. I absolutely love being a teacher! I love building classroom community and helping students develop a lifelong passion for learning.

About Me.

 

I grew up just outside of London Ontario. I attended the University of Waterloo for my Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. From there I travelled to South Korea where I taught English for 2 years. At that point I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I went back to school in Brisbane, Australia at Griffith University to become a teacher. Once I graduated I moved to Manitoba, Canada where I began teaching grade 4 at Wanipigow First Nations. This experience was life changing and I am so grateful for this time. From there I moved to the GTA and began teaching in the Peel region. In 2022 I decided it was time to make the switch to HWDSB and I'm so excited to be living and working in the same city! I live with my husband and 6 year old son.
